NEW RULE UPDATES
The following rules have been recommended by the USGA and have been adopted by our Club.
- “Through the green, a ball that is embedded may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole…A ball is embedded when it is in its own pitch-mark and part of the ball is below the level of the ground. A ball does not necessarily have to touch the soil to be embedded (e.g., grass, loose impediments and the like may intervene between the ball and the soil)” This rule is in effect all year long anywhere on the golf course except hazards and bunkers.
- Piles of debris created by the grounds crew will be considered ground under repair.
- Through the green, when a ball comes to rest in an aeration hole, the player is entitled to free relief.
Definition: “Through the green” means anywhere on the golf course except the teeing ground and green of the hole being played, bunkers and hazards.
Example: (Non Winter)
The ball is plugged in the wet spot in front of the right hand side of hole 1 you may lift, clean and drop the ball.
Or if your ball is plugged in the tall grass on the slope of hole 14, you may lift, clean and drop the ball at the location it was plugged.
PREFERRED LIES (WINTER RULES)
A ball may be moved through the green with the following restrictions:
A ball shall NOT be moved when it lies within 36 inches of the base of a tree, or a tree stump; or when it lies within 36 inches of Out of Bounds. Through the green is the entire area of the golf course except the teeing ground, putting green of the hole being played, and all hazards on the course.
If lifted, the ball shall be marked, it may be cleaned, and shall be placed no more than 12 inches from its original lie, no nearer the hole. Use of a club to move the ball is prohibited. A ball so lifted is deemed back in play once it has been placed. A ball is considered placed once it has been at rest for 5 seconds. A ball back in play that moves prior to address must be played as it lies unless rule 18 requires replacement. A player may not obtain relief under this rule if it is clearly unreasonable to play a stroke.
The embedded ball rule will be in effect through the green. When an embedded ball is lost beyond a reasonable doubt in wet or soft turf, another ball may be put into play as near as possible to the spot the original ball was lost, without penalty.
The general penalty for breach of this rule is two strokes in stroke play and loss of hole in match play.
MEN’S CLUB PLAY IT FORWARD
Seniors age 80 and over may play any men’s club event from the forward tees (Red). Also, anyone who’s age plus their handicap totals 100 or more may elect to play from the forward tees.
Players wishing to elect this option must notify the Handicap chairperson, Jim Norton, prior to the first tournament in March.
Players who qualify after the first tournament due to age plus handicap changes will need to obtain approval of the Handicap Chairman.
Any qualified player that does not wish to take this option can continue to play from the back tees.
This change has been adopted to make the game more enjoyable for our older players. Everyone should be able to reach the par 3’s in one, and some of the long holes from the back tees are extremely difficult for our older players. So, in the interest of fair play, we have adopted this change.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any officer of the club.
If you decide, at any time, that you do not want to continue to play from the forward tees, inform the Handicap Chairman. You will have to wait until the 1st of the next month due to handicap posting restrictions.
We should encourage all of our eligible members to use option. It will make the game much more enjoyable for them and everyone.
